Nutritional fortification
Pantothenic acid is of biologic importance because of its incorporation into coenzyme A (CoA) and acyl carrier protein (ACP), on which acetylation and acylation, respectively, and other interactions depend.CoA is an indispensable cofactor in all living organisms, where it functions in over 70 enzymatic pathways, including fatty acid oxidation, carbohydrate metabolism, pyruvate degradation, amino acid catabolism, haem synthesis, acetylcholine synthesis and phase II detoxification acetylation. On the other hand, ACP is an essential component of the fatty acid synthase (FAS) complex required for fatty acid elongation.
